The purpose of Odd Fellows Today is to tell the story of Odd Fellowship to both non-members and members alike, and to address the challenges we face as members of the Odd Fellows in a positive and constructive way. Mixing in fun musical sections and keeping the episodes short helps ensure focus and fun in one small, but packed episode. I like to think that if Mr. Rogers had put together an Odd Fellows podcast, it would have been a little bit like this one.



CONTENT





The scripts for Odd Fellows Today are written by Mike and focus on telling one particular topic per episode. This approach is intended to help listeners find information that are looking for as well as allow for a more complete exploration of each topic. Regardless of the topic. the application of positive Odd Fellows values are always applied so that these episodes focus on solutions. The episodes are also written to be "evergreen" meaning that they are not about specific events or individuals. This allows them to hold their value over time.



MUSIC





It had been my intent to write and perform all the songs on this podcast, but my ability to play the ukulele and sing is still far too rudimentary to force anyone else to endure. Instead, I have harnessed the power of using AI tools to take my lyrics, styles and feel and turn them into pieces that are actually enjoyable to hear.



PRODUCTION





There are no real commercials in these episodes. Instead, I have created commercials for Odd Fellowship that, while they may not generate any money, hopefully generate interest in our Order. All of the content in these episodes is written, created, edited, and produced by Mike.



About Mike





Mike grew up in Bucks County in suburban Philadelphia attending Neshaminy High School and becoming an Eagle Scout. He graduated in 1995 with a B.S. in Psychology and membership in Psi Chi National Honor Society. Working first in the counseling field and then in education, he found his way to the DC area where he learned Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software which was an emerging technology at that time. Working in that field in the private sector for 14 years, Mike took on the building of a GIS department for a state agency in West Virginia where he continues to serve as a manager.


Mike married his lovely wife Julie in 2001 with whom he has traveled extensively throughout the world. They have two wonderful children together who have joined in on the travels. Mike is also active in various organizations, serving various roles in his church, local community organizations, and has taken on leadership roles in most of them. He is a writer with several books published in both fiction and non-fiction.


Mike joined the Odd Fellows in January 2006 in Port Matilda Lodge #733. Not long after he became a member of the Encampment branch, then the Patriarchs Militant, and finally the Rebekahs. He has served as the presiding officer of all four branches at the local level, has been a Department Commander, Grand Secretary, Bugler General, Military Advisor, Aide to the Commander-in-Chief and Sovereign Grand Chaplain. Mike is current a member of Kanawha Lodge #25, Port Matilda Lodge #733, Ellinipsico Encampment #13, Canton Charleston #7, and Vandalia Rebekah Lodge #9.


In addition to this podcast, Mike is a co-host of the Three Links Oddcast.
